Head of Volunteer Experience
Responsibilities and duties:
As a 100% volunteer-led organisation, the experience of our volunteers is at the heart of everything that we do. We are seeking a highly proactive and organised person for the Head of Volunteer Experience role.
- Participate as a core member of the TEDxPerth Volunteer Leadership Team, contributing to strategy and culture.
- Establish and lead a small Volunteer Experience Team (typically 3–5 people) to deliver people-focused initiatives.
- Design and oversee the volunteer lifecycle—recruitment, onboarding, engagement, development, and offboarding.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of policies, processes, and tools to support an exceptional volunteer experience.
- Collaborate with Heads of Department to ensure appropriate volunteer resourcing across the organisation.
- Champion inclusive, safe, and positive volunteer culture aligned with TEDx values and community impact.
- Promote wellbeing and retention by fostering recognition, feedback, and community-building practices.
- Access guidance, training, and tools through Volunteering WA to support best-practice volunteer management.
- Uplift practices over time to align with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement.
- Contribute to succession planning, knowledge transfer, and long-term sustainability of volunteer roles.
Knowledge and skills required:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage, motivate, and support volunteers.
- Experience in people management, HR, community organising, or volunteer coordination (paid or volunteer).
- Understanding of volunteer management principles, ideally including the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to work cross-functionally across diverse teams.
- Organised and proactive, with skills in planning, documentation, and process improvement.

Time Commitment:
- Weekly Tasks Dedication: A commitment of 2 to 6 hours per week, with flexibility around key project deadlines.
- Collaborative Meetings: Participate in regular meetings to discuss progress and actions, 1 hour per week.
- Deadline Commitment: Timely completion of tasks is essential to ensure the success of our projects and the smooth operation of our organisation. Respond to all communication in a timely manner.
